Projek SAMA congratulates Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the reshuffle of its Shadow Cabinet to add five new members and change the portfolios of five existing Members.
Projek SAMA congratulates the five new shadow ministers:
1. Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri, Higher Education (Kemaman/PAS)
2. Shahir Sulaiman, Ekonomy (Bachok/PAS)
3. Bakri Jamaluddin, Plantations and Commodities (Tanga Batu/PAS)
4. Afnan Hamimi, Youth and Sports (Alor Setar/PAS)
5. Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah, Energy Transition and Public Utilities (Rompin/Bersatu)
Projek SAMA hopes that they will make the best use of their appointments to demonstrate their calibre and readiness to be ministers in the future.
Projek SAMA is convinced that everyone in our nation will profit, and the economy will flourish, if the parties in the government and those in the opposition compete on policies and solutions to meet the challenges faced by Malaysia instead of engaging in shouting matches in culture wars over ethnicity, religion, language, and royalty.
Projek SAMA reiterates its call to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to recognize the Shadow Cabinet, as already practiced in mature parliamentary democracies, for instance the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
Projek SAMA urges that recognition of the Shadow Cabinet encompass the following four points:
1. Shadow ministers appear before the Yang diPertuan Agung and swear oaths of allegiance as “His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.”
2. Shadow ministers be granted an allowance of RM5,000 per month – this is about one-third of the allowances given to Ministers, as in Australia – but without pension, Employees Provident Fund contributions and other types of remuneration.
3. Shadow ministers be provided with resources to employ a researcher with qualification suited to the respective portfolios.
4. Shadow ministers be provided with commensurate access to classified information, to enable them to well-perform their roles.
Recognition of Shadow Cabinet is in line with the ideals of Madani in the sense of encouraging respect and trust, demonstrating innovation and incentivising prosperity.
